1973 Dodge Charger - wip

The car I'm aming for. 

 

 

 

 

 

That's in the box. 

This is what I'm dealing with. 

Added some stock wheels to the kit. I the kit are only those deep dish racing rims and two different big tire types. Thanks to my big parts box. They are taken of the 1968 Charger. 

Look at that cool molding flesh. I can't believe, that this is here because the kit is too old to get the mold out of shape. I think. 

I did that hole into the hood to set on the hood scoop. And now I notice, that Michael Westens Dodge has a flat hood. Damnd. To cover this up a bit, I'm going to add a middle strip and sand it down to get that central edge. 

I sanded down some emblems and molding lines. Not that big issue - except at the front end. And I see, that Michael Westens Dodge has no filler cap. Put that on my todo list 

Primered that thin and notice some little past-work on the molding lines. 

Tried something new with black painted base color. It's rediculous, how the red plastic still comes through the black paint 

Then i put the first layer of black on it. I was satisfied with the result 

But two days later there are cracks in the paint :/ 

Crap. Stripping of the color.... 

After 24 hours you see the base cote and the black is nearly gone. The rest was done by brush. Another new issue: some parts of the body are sticky now. 

Finished the front bumper (removed the bumperetts) 

Sanded the base cote down to have a good and smooth surface. 

 

First layer of black (semi gloss). I decided to leave the path of a rattle can paint job.  

After a second layer of semi gloss black I painted clear cote.  

Sanding and polishing will follow  

Detail painting done. I'm satisfied so far. 

 

 

The front bumper is done. Removed the bumperettes and gave it a layer of "Revell Chrom". Awesome. Yeah, I see the little dent on the driver's side. It's okay for me. 

I like red clear plastics for rear lights. But then there is the problem, how to interpret the backup lights. I decided to build a mold and made some out of clear resine. The result is great I will say. Not that good to see on the picture: the 4th and 5th chamber are not clear because they are reflectors 😉 

The new layer of clear coat. The sides are good. 

...dirt and dust or what else. Great.... 

Did a first fitting test.  

Did the chrome trim, insert the interior and windows.  

 

I'm calling this "thing" completed 99% 

No mirrors because I'm not really satisfied with the bricks which came with the kit. I'm looking for another solution. 

That 1% is the missing license plate 😄 

 

That turn signals are not optimal so far. I think I have to paint some more kinda white.
