I can't believe my eyes. Look at that price on this page (Hobby Search). 165 USD !!!! for a 1:48 kit, Is that true? Whether this is a joke or we are going to get something extraordinary... If not we should unite to protest the model kit producers which create a huge inflation on the model scale market.

I think its a mistake and I wouldnt take the HobbySearch prices for real.
Wait for the prices from other shops and then we will see.

Still hoping for a decent 1/72 one (are you listening Zvezda ?) but it looks like our Chinese brethren have discovered free market capitalism 🙂

Despite the fact that this is not my favorite type of aircraft, i wont spend more than 50 bucks for it...

I totally agree, but when some kit makers prices are not really understandable sometimes😉
I rather go for a nice Zoukei kit then for this one😉

As they say, "never fly the Mark 1 of any aircraft" or install any Operating System on your computer until there is at least one service pack 🙂 There seem to be a few of these in the pipeline so I'm going to wait until someone has sniffed the plastic before parting with my cash. Still rooting for a 1/72 though ....

MSRP could be around that, but I wouldn't put it past 70$

It's not the first Hobby Boss in 1:48 that is expensive . Compared to Su-27 or other Russian jets of same dimension what is the average price for them 40-50 EUR? I guess Holger has the right price feeling.

For me the 2016 industrial standard for 1:48 jets is the AMK Mig-31. It is technically the most sophisticated kit on the market. Look at the "one piece" front part, look at the "one piece missiles". Its price is still between 55-70 USD in the far east. Companies like Hobby Boss usually divide the kits in as much parts as possible to be able to write 400+ or whatsoever parts on the box to increase the price. After building the AMK Mig-31 no other kit in the same class gives me the satisfaction anymore. So the price should be maximum at the same level. Otherwise those companies will only be creating inflation on the kit market and WE will (or won't) pay for it, no one else.... PS: try to follow Ebay and you will see what people are offering nowadays: e.g. for the ESCI Tu-22 for around 100 USD, althought there is a brand new and much better kit from Modelsvit on the market for 50-60 USD (in Ukraine of course). The trend is towards pulling much more money from our pockets to cover their costs, because the worldwide number of hobby modelers is unfortunately decreasing.

Thank you for bringing up this topic, I brag about this all the time. The only way to have our demands listened to is to stop buying ridiculously expensive kits .. simply boycott them and switch to cheaper brands.
Other ways: encourage local manufacturers, and focus on bargains of older and 2nd hand kits, we are in 2016 already so any 20 years old kit will be from 1996 and there are fantastic kits released by that time and available now for steal prices.

Personnaly, even if I'm nut of that plane, I will at least wait for the Kittyhawk offering ... Sorry HB, but it's not the best idea to insanely increase prices . Looks they forgot they aren't alone on that market 😉
