Le Mans 2008 R10 TDi

Some pics of the subject. I wanted to do the 2008 winning car of Capello/McNish/Kristensen 

Looks more interesting than the 2006 car as per the kit 

And 2008 also was the first opportunity I got to watch most of the 24Hrs on TV. Motors TV covered it all in 2007 and Eurosport had it in 2008. While I was aware if what Le Mans was and how important it is, until I saw a full one I had no idea what I had been missing all these years 

Engine assembly. This is going to be an as per box model apart from the livery. 

Not Tamiya level detail but still not bad. I'm impressed with the look so far. 

I've used tamiya lacquer paint dark iron as a reasonable representation of carbon fibre.  

And insulation foil tape for the heat shielding in the engine bay.  

This stuff. Left over from a home insulation project.  

There are numerous issues with the Colorado decal sheet. First is the printing. It's like a 3d type decal as the layers of colour are so thick and have a textured appearance.  

The sheet is one continuous carrier film with this heavy print on top. In addition, the font used for the word 'Audi' is incorrect for this car. Which is unforgivable as there are plenty of photos and even the kit sheet is correct. Unfortunately I can't use it for the rear wing as I need it black and the kit is (correctly for the 2006 car) red. 

Lastly lots of the darker colours (including even the black) have a fine white offset registration line on one side. 

So I photocopied the sheet and cut masks to paint the scheme instead.  

Worked out better than I expected. Still a few small touch ups though.
