November 19, 2018Using Super Clean to de-chrome. Amazing stuff. So quick and simple.2
November 19, 2018Trying out Stynylrez's metal primer for all chrome parts.3
November 19, 2018Decided this project to de-chrome and re-spry with Tamiya's X-11 "Chrome Silver".4
November 19, 2018Also decided to get the windows done first with chroming the edges and then coating in Future. This way they have plenty of time to cure fully while I build the rest of the kit.5
November 19, 2018Got a little tricky doing the Future coating. I had planned to leave the glass on the sprue but then thought I would end up damage the edges when trying to remove them later...6
November 19, 2018Tamiya's X-11 is not a very good "chrome" paint but I still prefer it to the plated stuff.7
November 19, 2018Another X-11 example. So now all the chrome pieces and glass are painted and clear coated, and hopefully fully cured for when they are needed.8
November 24, 2018Primed9
November 24, 2018Mixed up body color. X14 with a bunch of X2 and touch of X510
November 24, 2018Sprayed flat white on interior columns and roof. Then masked.11
November 24, 2018A few layers of the base color but unable to get a good final wet coat. The orange peeling did level-out more but not completely.12
November 24, 2018Letting dry before clear coat.13
November 24, 2018Clear coat. Not terrible but still not able to get a good wet coat so more orange peeling.14
November 24, 2018Roof panel.15
November 24, 2018Bonnet/Hood.16
November 29, 2018Using foam blocks and alligator clips-on-a-stick that everyone seems to have and am liking them a lot. Was able to find time to prep a bunch of pieces for priming.17
November 29, 2018Also trying out Tamiya's spongy sand paper. Liking it a lot too. Using 1500 to give the primer something to bite on.18
December 6, 2018There is an error in the instructions. The dashboard should be flipped.19
December 10, 2018Got the headlights in. Same with the tail lights.20
December 10, 2018Was able to prime everything and them mask and spray the interior pieces.21
December 10, 2018definitely nerve-racking removing the masking. No peeling thankfully.22
December 10, 201823
December 10, 2018Trying out flocking for the flooring of the interior.24
December 10, 2018Way more messier than I thought it would be. Also need to pre-paint the area to match the flocking color. I thought the flocking would would be enough by it's self but I was wrong.25
December 10, 2018sides finished and assembled.26
December 10, 2018Interior ready. I tried to use a "wash" on the left front seat but it turned out badly. Very frustrated by that.27
December 12, 2018Dash done.28
December 12, 201829
December 12, 201830
December 12, 201831
December 17, 2018The fire wall was riding too high and causing the chassis to not fit correctly with the body . Had to cut the retainers to allow the firewall move down32
December 17, 2018was able to get it flush33
December 17, 2018Add the seat belt pieces after connecting the interior to the the shell.34
December 17, 2018Not so happy with the Future clear coat. Seems it's easily affected by fingerprint residue.35
December 17, 2018Tried out Tamiya's wax but not sure it is worth it...36
December 17, 2018Underneath....37
December 17, 2018Finally finished!38
December 17, 2018The three amigos... on to the next build...
