AREA 88: F-8E Crusader (SHIN CRASH)
What to do with a half-built F-8E Crusader? Hmmm...
The trick for this build will be in the painting, so let's try some subtle undercoat shading.
Burned a few holes using a soldering iron and then gave them a highlight paint using "burnt iron".
Now for the white. I used the hairspray technique to be able to chip most of it off. Now it's starting to look the part.
I used the blue paint in 1:2 ratio with some white to give it a much lighter, more faded look. I also repeated the hairspray technique to give it a chipped look.
I added the first structural underlayer of the "sand" using white "angel clay". I also used the salt technique to give some contrast to the blue... not sure it worked as well as I hoped though.
A bit more chipping and the blue is looking better. Added the forward part of the canopy. I won't use the aft section as it gets blow off mid-flight in the manga.
Added a bit of a "sandy" wash to the white paint. It's subtle, but I think it works.
Now for some more bits and pieces with the tail section. Including some bits broken off and hanging down.
First layer of "sand" - I couldn't find any more sand-coloured "angel clay" so I used "candy clay". They're basically the same kind of paper-based product, but I think i prefer the Angels to candy.
Smoothed it out as best I could... it will likely constrict and crack when it dries.
Yeah. There are already some cracks forming. Just need to add some decals and this baby is all done.

After being shot down in 1979 During the Asran Civil War, Shin's F-8E Crusader has been discovered after spending the last 40 years in the desert. Although Shin survived the crash, it stands as a testament to all the foreign mercenary pilots who didn't.
