With the Mauler proving less then successful, what was Martin to do with all the R-4360 engines it had contracted to receive. As the Curtiss Seahawk was reaching the end of it's usefulness, the answer was the Martin SC-3 Seahawk. The type remained in service till the early 60s.

Herge liked to mix his sea planes and the Seahawk/Mauler in Coke en stock (The Red Sea Sharks) is no exception.
