Ghibli: My Neighbour Totoro (Daihatsu Midget DK)
Here's the kit I'll be using.
Lots of bits and bites... 3 vehicles, 3 sprues.
Of course I'll only need a couple from each.
And those will be modified...
A bit of proof-of-concept...
And a few more parts...
Voila! All boxed up.
Had to modify the rear axle to accommodate the wider frame.
If I was really ambitious, I'd have removed the rear part of the jeep... if I was that ambitious. 🙂
Added a second layer to the windshield frame and sanded it flush. Also added fenders!
Scratched up a driver's seat and puttied up the seams.
Wheels painted...
T'ah-dah! Basically done. Just a coat of future and wash left to do... oh, and the stand.
Wait... something's missing...
Ahhh... it needed cargo... 🙂
Ok... cargo in place...
Thank goodness it still all fits...
A coat of Future applied
Now it's really done.
This time for sure!
No, really!

Album info
A little kit-bashed scratch-build of the "three-wheeled truck" used by the Kusakabe family to move to their new house in the animated movie, "My Neighbour Totoro." Based on the Daihatsu Midget DK, I used parts of a 1/72 Willys Jeep, a Kübelwagen and a Kettenkrad to create the basic chassis and boxed it up using styrene plates.
