AREA 88 : "Need a Boost?" (F-100D)
For a 1/144 Super Sabre, Otaki seems to have the only kit in town...
I use the word “kit” loosely. Not a lot in this one...
That’s more or less the only bits I’ll use.
First up, that nose. Needs serious thinning and a bit of reshaping.
Boxed in the air intake, cut out the area for the cockpit and will be using a red LED to block up the afterburner.
Since this will be “wheels up” I decided to add an airbrake.
Added a cockpit floor and now all the guts now glued in place.
All buttoned up. Now to remove the raised panel lines, rescribe and putty the seams/gaps.
The airbrake well looks good, but needs to fill in some gaps due to uneven thickness of the fuselage interior.
Covered the wheel wells.
Added some cockpit details.
Changed my mind (I'm allowed!) so I uncovered the wheel wells and boxed them in instead.
Finished off the scratched cockpit... Mickey Simon reporting for duty!
Got the base down and added the pilot tube.
Top side paint on...
underside paint on... does that look like Israeli Eggshell blue?
Scratchbuilding for the underside... and I managed to drop some glue on the paint job... naturally.
Base layer of paint on and masked.
Then the first layer of camouflage.
Second layer of camouflage... it’s looking better.
Final details... into the home stretch! Engine LED added.
The wheels are glued on “mid-takeoff”
Despite the trouble with the LED, afterburners are go!
Now... for the rocket boosters.
But first... a panel wash.
Let’s not forget the rocket boosters, shall we?
And... we're done!
