Tamiya Citroën 2CV - WIP
All parts sanded and primed
Using UMP Primer for the first time. Goes on very nicely. Before I was using Tamiya Primer decanted from a spray can which is really good but a lot of hassle.
All the other parts.
Body painted
Still getting to grips with airbrushing the clear coat.
Chassis assembled. It's nice and springy.
Decals on. Putting on the fender and side running decals was tricky.
Engine done and installed
Spent the evening figuring out issues I was having with airbrushing. Very productive indeed. Feeling much more confident moving forward.
Ended up hand painting the panelling. Not great at all but actually better than I was expecting.
Front bumper assembly. Took a lot of force to get the uprights in so make sure your clear coat has cured well before doing this. The bumper decals were also fiddly. For the uprights I used a black sharpie rather than try to paint it.
Masking the seats was way a lot of work for those little pieces.
But I think it was worth it. I did have some paint come off when removing the masks but was able to fix it easily.
Cabin done.
Steering column and wheel where quite fiddly to put in.
My attempt at painting the window edges. Used "Liquid Chrome" for the chrome edges. Not keen on it. Next time I think I'll use Bare Metal or spray it.
I'm not too unhappy with the final result. I was expecting worse.
Nearly there. Everything is painted and clear coated. Going to wait a few more days for all the clear coats to cure fully before final assembly.
Got the windows in. Not a disaster but not great either. The biggest issue was that they don't fit very well so made it much tricker to set them correctly.
Remember to install the exhaust pipe BEFORE the chassis. You can still get it in but it's not easy.
I had to re-adjust the engine and radiator in order to get everything to line up together. Definitely a bit of a challenge.
Finally got it sorted.
Even with everything lining up the hood/bonnet does not fit snuggly. Shame.
