Jacky Ickx & Rothmans Porsche - WIP

Here are the 4 Starter kits with the one thing that unites them: the Rothmans blue. (and the fact that they are Jacky Ickx piloted Porsches of course) 

This is the 'central theme'. 

The 4 models are in different modelling status. 

The period reaches from 1983 to 1986. 

 

 

 

 

I finally managed to prepare all the Porsches, put them in white primer, give them 2 coats of TS-26 pure white, and mask the areas which need to stay white. 

Porsche 959 Dakar 1985. Tamiya masking tape was used, and where needed I used some liguid Maskol. 

Porsche 959 Dakar 1986. Same masking procedure with Tamiya masking tape and Maskol. 

Porsche 956 Le Mans 1983. Again the same masking procedure with the help of Maskol at the rear wing supports. 

Porsche 962 Le Mans 1985. One last time the same masking procedure of which I start to get the hand of now 😉 

And then the Rothmans blue areas were sprayed with Zeropaints ZP-1077 Dark Blue. 

I had to spray a lot of paint to reach the desired dark blue; at least 5 or 6 coats were given, each time the paint looked a little darker. 

Unlike what most people experience, this paint didn't dry up flat. I is still pretty glossy, and also it took about a week to really harden. 

This is probably due to the fact that I sprayed 6 coats at the same time which causes the first layers to take more time to dry underneath the top layers. 

But after week everything was completely hardened, and I did some small 'retouches' here and there to get rid of small mistakes due to overspray. 

Next I applied the decals of the "Rothmans striping". 

Porsche 962 with striping in place. 

Porsche 956 with Rothmans striping applied. 

Porsche 959 Dakar 1985 with Rothmans striping in place. 

And Porsche 959 Dakar 1986 with Rothmans striping applied.
