Ligier JS37 Renault - GP France 1992 - WIP

June 20, 2016First I clean up the whitemetal bodyparts and a polish them. I also drill out all the necessary holes.2
June 20, 2016Next I assemble the photo-etched front- and rear wings.3
June 20, 2016Next I fix the photo-etched suspension arms to check the fixing points.4
June 20, 2016All the suspension arms are dry fitted to the body - looking good. I also assemble the machine-turned wheels and rubber tires.5
June 20, 2016So far, so good. Now let's concentrate to the brakes.6
July 5, 2016But first I put the body in grey primer to check for irregularities. Next I spray some areas of the body with TS-26 Pure White, because the decal sheet doesn't provide in those white areas.7
July 5, 2016Next I mask the white areas after which I spray the whole body with "Fiat 497 Cannes Blue", which I ordered specially for this build.8
July 5, 2016Once the blue paint is dry, I start to apply the first white decals. The red lining is printed on the decals. The front wing is painted in black.9
July 5, 2016I let the white decals dry for 24 hours, and ten I apply the sponsor decals on top of them.10
July 5, 2016I had to use quite a lot of decal solution to get them into shape, and I even had to use the hair-dryer, but in the end it all turned out well.11
July 5, 2016I also sprayed the front wing end plates exteriors with the same Fiat Blue (as well as the rear end plates - not visible here), after which I apllied the front wing decals. Finally I painted the black paint where needed manually.12
July 23, 2016Next the body received 2 clearcoats, after which I let it dry for about a week. Now I fixed the front wings and the suspension arms. I also prepared the wheels and tires by sanding the surfaces and fixing the tire decals.13
July 23, 2016Once the suspension is fixed I concentrated on the interior, which was painted and installed. The front wing was partly given a flat coat, and the wheels were attached. Now I can fix the car safely to a firm base plate.14
July 23, 2016At this time I can give the body a final polish, because I don't have to touch it anymore with my greasy fingers. I can also fix all the small details now without any risk of ruining the car's body (or at least with minimum risk).15
July 23, 2016Close-up of the cockpit. You can see the steering wheels and the gear shifting rod, as well as the fire extinguisher and part of the seat belts.16
July 23, 2016Top shot from the cockpit: you see the seat belts and the seat here.17
July 23, 2016Still missing on the car: the rear wing. I sprayed it flat black first, next I masked the end plates to spray them blue. But I got some overspray, so I'll have to to the flat black again. But first the end plates clearcoat has to dry.18
July 26, 2016Meanwhile the tierods were fixed, as well as the antenna, the mirrors, and the tire stickers. Finally I masked the end plates with Maskol, I re-sprayed the flat black rear wing and decalled it, and I fixed it to the car's gear box. Job's done 😉
