Revell MG TC 1945 - WIP
1
December 29, 2018Very simple kit. Not many pieces.2
December 29, 2018No more chrome3
December 29, 2018Used 400 and 800 grit to sand the body mainly to give the primer something to grip.4
December 29, 2018Sanded bonnet (hood)5
December 29, 2018Closer look at the difference between the original un-sanded surface and the sanded one.6
December 29, 2018Annoying pin marks. Gave up trying to remove them completely7
December 29, 2018Used Bare-Metal's panel scribing tool for the first time. In the model the door is simply raised from the body but I wanted an actual panel line.8
December 29, 2018Pretty happy with the result. Looks better once the primer is on.9
December 29, 2018Using Stynylrez's yellow primer as under coat for the red base coat.10
December 29, 201811
December 29, 2018Primer really shows up the imperfections in the plastic.12
December 30, 2018Forgot to mention that I'm using my new Iwata Revolution CR for this build... and probably for every other build going forward. The only negative is that it's too easy for me to flood the paint. Might look into getting a limiter.13
December 30, 2018Sanded the sharp edges and re-primed14
December 30, 2018Got this weird pitting on the hood/bonnet15
December 30, 2018sanded it and re-painted16
December 30, 2018Still came back. I think it's coz I didn't thin the paint enough?17
December 30, 2018The body came out nearly perfect. Did three thin coats. No clear coat yet, just X-7 at this point.18
December 30, 201819
December 30, 201820
December 30, 201821
December 30, 2018Remnants of pin marks much more visible now. Oh well.22
December 30, 2018Just love Liquid Chrome. Makes some jobs so easy.23
December 30, 2018Et vola!24
December 30, 2018Found a store nearby that had Alclad II paints. Got the gloss black primer, aqua clear, chrome and gold plate. Very excited to see how this turns out.25
December 30, 2018Did two coats of gloss black. Goes on very nicely.26
December 30, 2018This side of the MG's radiator after the gloss coat dried. Very impressive. I've never had anything this shiny before!27
December 31, 2018Chrome all shiny and new again. Alclad was really nice to work with.28
December 31, 2018Clear coated this piece with Alclad Aqua clear gloss to se how it looked. Shame about the dust bunnies.29
December 31, 2018Did two coats of Aclad Aqua clear but then did two more coats with Future.30
December 31, 2018The body came out the best. Had virtually no dust bunnies and only slight texturing of the clear coat (4 coats of Future).31
December 31, 201832

January 18, 2019Finally go more done34
January 18, 2019Just these left to finish. Going to try using oils paints for the seat leather and canvas. Not sure about the dash. it looks hard.35
January 19, 2019De-oiling the oil paints36
January 19, 2019Got inexpensive Winton series 137
January 19, 2019Also trying out micro mask for the first time...38
January 19, 2019Canopy covering39
January 19, 2019The seats... now wait for them to dry40
January 26, 2019Seats and canopy dry. Doing a quick dry fit to see how it looks. Seats are too much like the body. Will paint them a dark brown now. Need the canopy to be darker too.41
January 28, 2019Using oil paints to try to create a wood texture...42
January 28, 2019Had a little break through on detailing the dials. Just thinned out the paint with Tamiya Retarder and flooded the dials! Yah43
January 29, 2019Used Epoxy resin to create glass for the large dials.44
January 30, 2019And it's complete!
