Ghibli: Ponyo (Fujimoto's Submarine)
![Album image #1 Album image #1](/albums/img/2/9/9/366299-26441-42-720.jpg)
Here's the box.. nice ship... Not what I'm going to build... but nice.
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/3/0/0/366300-26441-17-720.jpg)
Here's the most important part, the main hull. I also found a couple of Bandai wings from a "Gundam thing"
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/2/9/7/366297-26441-42-720.jpg)
First things first... cut the hull to shape and glued it together.
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/2/9/8/366298-26441-39-720.jpg)
Added internal structure for support and for something to drill into so I can attach the wings.
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/8/3/0/367830-26441-72-720.jpg)
Added the deck, the beginning of the cabin, and modified the "wings"
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/8/3/1/367831-26441-50-720.jpg)
Drilled out some side windows.
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/8/3/2/367832-26441-37-720.jpg)
The shape is not quite 100% correct, but it's about as close as I can reasonably expect.
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/8/4/2/367842-26441-15-720.jpg)
Roughed-in details for the cabin.
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/7/3/0/368730-26441-47-720.jpg)
The very beginnings of the upper cabin frame...
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/7/3/1/368731-26441-59-720.jpg)
That's a pretty close match. Book it!
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/2/3/6/369236-26441-62-720.jpg)
Lots of glueing, clamping, cutting, sanding and putty later...
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/2/3/7/369237-26441-11-720.jpg)
Added a bit of detail to the back end.
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/2/3/5/369235-26441-27-720.jpg)
Interior details... upside down.
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/2/3/8/369238-26441-82-720.jpg)
More interior details, upside down. Just some shelves and whatnot.
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/6/0/6/369606-26441-92-720.jpg)
Added a few of the external details.
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/0/3/7/370037-26441-94-720.jpg)
After a coat of primer, it looks like there'll be a few more rounds of PSR...
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/0/3/6/370036-26441-93-720.jpg)
All the interior work should pay off because it will be quite visible when completed.
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/1/3/5/370135-26441-82-720.jpg)
Touched up a few missed spots with putty. Where'd that 3-wheeled tuck come from? 😉
![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/6/3/9/371639-26441-33-720.jpg)
Painted lots of the interior bits... but not quite finished yet.
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/1/6/4/373164-26441-63-720.jpg)
Painting done.
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/1/6/5/373165-26441-30-720.jpg)
Everything glued in place and a coat of Future applied.
![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/1/6/6/373166-26441-87-720.jpg)
Thank god the two halves still fit together.
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/9/1/9/373919-26441-42-720.jpg)
Whoops! Almost forgot to add the rudder. Now let's get some paint on her!
![Album image #24 Album image #24](/albums/img/0/4/7/374047-26441-51-720.jpg)
The first coat of red paint. Might need a second go 'round.
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/4/8/2/374482-26441-24-720.jpg)
Captain. We have a problem. Tipped over and roughed up the paint. That's okay... Red needs to be darker anyway.
![Album image #26 Album image #26](/albums/img/2/9/8/379298-26441-46-720.jpg)
Ok... that's better the four main colours (white, beige, blue and red) are all in. Now for some details.
![Album image #27 Album image #27](/albums/img/2/9/9/379299-26441-12-720.jpg)
I'm glad I made the stand tall enough to accommodate the flippers.
![Album image #28 Album image #28](/albums/img/3/0/0/379300-26441-89-720.jpg)
I quite like the bend in the flippers... gives it that organic flow look.
![Album image #29 Album image #29](/albums/img/9/9/5/386995-26441-12-720.jpg)
Looks like the light bulb works.
![Album image #30 Album image #30](/albums/img/1/7/4/397174-26441-99-720.jpg)
All done!
![Album image #31 Album image #31](/albums/img/1/7/5/397175-26441-59-720.jpg)

Album info
A little kit-bashed scratch-build of Fujimoto's submarine from the Studio Ghibli animated film, "Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea." For the main hull, I used a modified 1/350 Cutty Sark (Academy). For the wings I used some parts from a random Bandai "Gundam thing". The rest is all scratch built.
