AREA 88 : "Need a Boost?" (F-100D)
![Album image #1 Album image #1](/albums/img/6/1/7/506617-26441-56-720.jpg)
For a 1/144 Super Sabre, Otaki seems to have the only kit in town...
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/6/1/9/506619-26441-45-720.jpg)
I use the word “kit” loosely. Not a lot in this one...
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/6/1/8/506618-26441-94-720.jpg)
That’s more or less the only bits I’ll use.
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/6/1/4/506614-26441-57-720.jpg)
First up, that nose. Needs serious thinning and a bit of reshaping.
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/6/1/5/506615-26441-36-720.jpg)
Boxed in the air intake, cut out the area for the cockpit and will be using a red LED to block up the afterburner.
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/6/2/0/506620-26441-78-720.jpg)
Since this will be “wheels up” I decided to add an airbrake.
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/6/2/1/506621-26441-77-720.jpg)
Added a cockpit floor and now all the guts now glued in place.
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/6/1/6/506616-26441-72-720.jpg)
All buttoned up. Now to remove the raised panel lines, rescribe and putty the seams/gaps.
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/6/1/1/506611-26441-85-720.jpg)
The airbrake well looks good, but needs to fill in some gaps due to uneven thickness of the fuselage interior.
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/5/6/8/512568-26441-39-720.jpg)
Covered the wheel wells.
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/5/6/9/512569-26441-15-720.jpg)
Added some cockpit details.
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/3/4/9/595349-26441-32-720.jpg)
Changed my mind (I'm allowed!) so I uncovered the wheel wells and boxed them in instead.
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/3/5/0/598350-26441-29-720.jpg)
Finished off the scratched cockpit... Mickey Simon reporting for duty!
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/8/8/7/601887-26441-30-720.jpg)
Got the base down and added the pilot tube.
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/9/1/3/605913-26441-90-720.jpg)
Top side paint on...
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/9/1/4/605914-26441-93-720.jpg)
underside paint on... does that look like Israeli Eggshell blue?
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/9/1/5/605915-26441-23-720.jpg)
Scratchbuilding for the underside... and I managed to drop some glue on the paint job... naturally.
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/9/0/7/607907-26441-23-720.jpg)
Base layer of paint on and masked.
![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/9/0/6/607906-26441-65-720.jpg)
Then the first layer of camouflage.
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/1/3/7/608137-26441-12-720.jpg)
Second layer of camouflage... it’s looking better.
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/0/3/1/609031-26441-28-720.jpg)
Final details... into the home stretch! Engine LED added.
![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/2/8/2/609282-26441-25-720.jpg)
The wheels are glued on “mid-takeoff”
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/2/8/3/609283-26441-11-720.jpg)
Despite the trouble with the LED, afterburners are go!
![Album image #24 Album image #24](/albums/img/2/8/1/609281-26441-92-720.jpg)
Now... for the rocket boosters.
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/1/2/6/610126-26441-47-720.jpg)
But first... a panel wash.
![Album image #26 Album image #26](/albums/img/6/6/1/611661-26441-69-720.jpg)
Let’s not forget the rocket boosters, shall we?
![Album image #27 Album image #27](/albums/img/0/9/2/612092-26441-32-720.jpg)
And... we're done!
![Album image #28 Album image #28](/albums/img/0/9/3/612093-26441-12-720.jpg)
![Album image #29 Album image #29](/albums/img/0/9/5/612095-26441-60-720.jpg)
