I just love the smell of a nice shiny new box.

One thing I’ve noticed about the Platz sprues is that you can see which ones F-Toys intended to be painted and packaged and which were for internal use only.

Let’s start with the cockpit... painted in grey.
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/1/8/5/525185-26441-19-720.jpg)
No one sees the seam line down the middle of the canopy, right? RIGHT!? No... one...
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/1/8/6/525186-26441-69-720.jpg)
Painted and assembled the cockpit tub. It’ll be filled with pilots and covered under a thick canopy anyway, so it’s just the hint of an F-4E cockpit.
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/3/0/3/527303-26441-78-720.jpg)
Time to paint the pilots! Pretty rough, but they look enough like Shin and Warren to me.
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/3/0/2/527302-26441-67-720.jpg)
Luckily, they fit in the cockpit. I hope they don’t hit their heads on the canopy.
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/8/7/2/527872-26441-97-720.jpg)
Alright, time for a few LEDs... nothing fancy, just wired in.
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/8/7/1/527871-26441-90-720.jpg)
Is that gap under the cockpit supposed to be there? I think not... but...?
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/8/7/3/527873-26441-13-720.jpg)
Light check.... check!
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/2/3/6/545236-26441-82-720.jpg)
Some putty on the seams and gaps...
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/2/3/5/545235-26441-57-720.jpg)
...some putty off the seams and gaps... hopefully.
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/0/2/3/596023-26441-10-720.jpg)
Canopy masked and intake interiors painted...
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/0/2/5/596025-26441-21-720.jpg)
And now assembled... now what? Paint I guess...
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/0/2/4/596024-26441-92-720.jpg)
So... grey.... on the bottom... I think. Should I have pre-shaded the panel lines?
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/4/5/7/548457-26441-83-720.jpg)
First coat of paint on the topside. I’m not sure the black pre-shading will do any good once it’s all said and done.
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/5/5/2/549552-26441-60-720.jpg)
Masking... round 1
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/5/5/3/549553-26441-62-720.jpg)
Ok... more or less successful. On to masking Round 2!
![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/5/5/4/549554-26441-39-720.jpg)
Hmmm... I dunno... Does it look like something an F-4E Phantom II would wear?
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/9/1/0/594910-26441-73-720.jpg)
Now for the engines. A little metallic paint should do the trick.
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/9/0/9/594909-26441-61-720.jpg)
Hmm... a few stray sparkles. How much do I care about that?
![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/3/4/8/595348-26441-96-720.jpg)
With a coat of Future and some weathering, the sparkles are all gone. Whew!
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/6/5/5/595655-26441-76-720.jpg)
Mounted on the base. Lights still work.
![Album image #24 Album image #24](/albums/img/6/5/6/595656-26441-57-720.jpg)
A few decals to complete the look.
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/6/5/7/595657-26441-55-720.jpg)
All done. Now just waiting on the B-1 to join.
